ive got a 38gal with a growing mts population. im wondering if, once the population gets established, would i be able to get a dwarf puffer without the puffer eating all the snails? i would want the puffer to eat some snails but not all of them, to that there are always snails in the tank for him to eat. that way, i wouldnt have to feed him snails. is this possible, or would the puffer just eat all the snails?

MTS have very hard shells. I don't believe the DP's would be able to eat them unless they were very small like new born (since they are live bearing). Some don't recomend them at all for puffers.

They will probably get them all eventually... They'll suck out the meat.

alright... pufferpunk, i posted something on **************.com before you posted that. if you could check out my topic on the puffer forum that would be cool.:)

I just saw that.

alright, as i posted on the puffer forum, im gonna wait and see if i can persuade my dad to get me a 20gal long for my birthday. that should work for one of the smaller species of puffers...
as of now, im pufferless.

From what I've heard, dwarf puffers might severely harm themselves if they try to break the MTS shells. I've heard several accounts of broken teeth and a malnourished puffer as a result. Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

ive decided to try to get my dad to give me a 20long for my birthday, which will end up housing either a bronze, arrowhead, congo, avocado, or South American puffer. ill use my 38al community tank to breed MTS, which will be fed to the puffer along with bloodworms and pellets to keep the beak down.

does this sound like a good plan?

That should work. Congos have some pretty nasty chompers.
