Dwarf Puffers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
3 total, 1 male / 2 females :)

Be sure to add some deco as well to break the lines of sight and keep aggression down...

That would be the best ratio, but I feel like this is becoming easier said then done now. Most places that sell them, do it at an age where it is very hard to sex them or if they are of sexing age they cost a lot. The only time I've seen a place that had them of age was a person who posted about finding them at petland and they were 15 bucks for 2. For this reason I suggest you start with trying to get 2 females first, before attempting to get a male. Dps are very aggressive for their size and if you were unlucky enough to get 2 males into a tank even with a female would mean the 2 males would pretty much fight to the death. If you don't believe me google it, people have to return dps all the time because of aggression especially as they age. Use dwarfpuffer.com as a sexing guide and good luck.

I kept 8 in a very heavily planted 10g without a problem. Just up the water changes.

Not saying it wouldn't work... but honestly, if it were me, i would rather fill the 10G with say 3 Dwarf Puffers, 2X Otto Cats, and maybe a bunch of Cherry Red Shrimp... much better than having to always watch out for major aggression issues and you get to add a bit of diversity...

But thats just my take on it...

It worked for me. It was so heavily planted they don't even see each other. I had cherry shrimp in there too and none got killed. Well, probably the baby shrimp. I never had a problem with aggression. The usual chase here and there but no major damage at all.

^ no doubt, with enough cover it could work out... Although im curious to know what your male to female ratio was?

I think I had 3 males that time. If my judgement was correct and I hope it was. I was really hard to sex them at the Lfs so I just bought the whole batch. They were cheap too.
