I am thinking of getting two dwarf puffer fish, and placing them in my very small 3 gallon tank with my dwarf frogs but I am wondering if the puffers would cause problems in there with the frogs. I am also curious if that wouldnt work about putting them in my 20 or if they would be to busy nipping fins. I have heard they like to nip fins

OK, disclaimer: I don't know a lot about puffers.

But, I would think that 3 gallons is too small for two dwarf puffers.

The puffers might also try to eat or just nip and harass the frogs to death.

I don't think they would work with the current fish you have in the 20, for sure they would nip at the betta.

Can someone else who knows puffers help out here?

You can fit two dwarfs in a 3 gal. They only get bout 1" to 1.5". I dont know bout those frogs though you would think they would eat the dp's. Personally I would prolly try it just watch closely.

my god man, just spring for a 10 gallon tank. It'll cost you like, 5 dollars more. Literally.

i saw 10 gallon tanks for $9 the other day.........

Very true. I see them for like 5 bucks round here all the time. They also have complete setups for like 40 dollars.

The puffers will terrorize the frogs, and the tankmates in your 20.

They might be ok in the 3g, but I think one will become dominant and eventually stress out and kill the other. Heavily plant it and give them lots of broken lines of site and territory. I would say upgrade your tank a little and go for 3 ;)

I am currently about to purchase another 25, 30, and 18 but I allready have plans for those, and living in a dorm room I dont have room for much more. But I like puffers thats why I was thinking about putting them with the frogs.

dwarf puffers are happy in small schools and it is easyier to sex them so i would go 2m and 4 f in a ten gallon w/ lots of plants

in small schools? no way. dwarf puffers are way territorial, and they definitely think that they are way stronger than they are. you can keep two in a 3 until they mature but yeah, the dominant one will harass the weak one to death (yeah, it's happened to me). in a 20, that's okay as long as they have space to hide in shrubby grasses, etc.

i doubt the puffers would care about the frogs, since they don't move much or anything. i know dwarfs are fine with like, an oto and other lazy fish. but yeah, they ate my poor guppy tails to death.
