Hi everyone, how do think dwarf seahorses would do in a 29 gallon? I am experinced with seahorses too( have had a couple different species over the years). The tank is already cycled, but I will not be adding anything anytime soon; I will be adding a sump to my aquarium first. I will also start a brine shrimp hatchery first too. I have also heard that you need a serton amount of dwarf seahorses per aquarium.(due to their small size and feeding habits.) Would a 29 gallon aquarium be to big for these guys. If not, how would I have to put in there? Would some gorgonians and sea fans be good anchoring sites? thanks :)

that is what my friend keeps them in but i dont have very much exxperience with seahorses she has about 6 of them in a 29 gallon and they look pretty happy and healthy

Thanks for the response.(= I just picked up 7 bags of live argonite for free. The guy said he has had just sitting there for about a year now and never used it. Is it safe to use? thanks

just as long as you wash it REALLY WELL it should be just fine but it wont be live if there was any beneficial bacteria in it it has died over that long of time

deffinatly add a refugium to your tank. sea horses make waste like its there job and a refugium will not only help with nitrate but will be a huge breeding ground for pods and lil shrimps for food. but dont get any of that mircle mud or live sand crap... stick to chato and macro algae. it will be a life saver, i had 4 sea horses in a 500 gal coral system and within a week the nitarte started to climb from 0.00 up to 20ppm . they were the only things in the system and that had a 30g refugium in it.

u mean gorgs?

You will have to be feeding a very large amount of baby brine shrimp in order for them to be able to find a sufficient amount of food to survive. And sea fans are very difficult to maintain they need to be fed phytoplankton and zooplankton several times a day.
