thanks every one
all i know is Indo is smaller than atlantic .... and if u can find indos, they arent that expensive ... not that rare, but needs huge tank .... heard they get like 3ft still....
there MIGHT be smaller ones that resembles a herring, but im not sure...
He's got it right, the Indo-Pacific version only gets to 4.5 feet as opposed to 8 feet. Those are the only two species. You can get their closest relative, the ladyfish (6 species) which stays much smaller and I have kept for a few years.
I have seen the Indo tarpon in a thread on MFK recently...
heres a pic of my tarpon ... but his chin has gotten worse from basically swimming against the glass all day.... he has plenty of space to swim around in the 300gal instead of against the glass... .so i dont know if thats a standard behavioral thing for em.....
pomatomus? mind sharing a few pics of ur ladyfish if u have any? i would love to see how they r like, cuz i did spent some time looking for them but had no luck ... heard they get spooked and then poop a lot ^^:;

It's unfortunately normal behaviour...my two 3'ers grew these 2 inch growths on the side of their faces from swimming around a 12' acrylic cylinder all day in the same direction, rubbing the glass...
