I really like rays but dont wanna get a massive tank for one, are there a such thing as like... dwarf rays? that are fresh water, dont know alot about them so thought i would ask, may seem like a dumb question to most ray owners.

Yeah. Teacup rays are usually sold as retics I think. They still get to about 12'' in disc size minimum.

Correct me if im wrong? /new to this

I just asked basically the same question.

The footprint is more important than the volume of water. I've had a couple opinions that said my 56'' x 38'' tank is an O.K. space for the smaller species of rays, but ill let a more experienced ray owner answer your question. :D

If your talking just 1 ray then, get a male, they usually stay smaller. Like already mentioned hystrix is a great choice. 24" wide tank will last a long time if not for life.

I heard teacups are smaller, but die easily.

Tea cups is not a species, it is a term for cheap baby rays, a 2' wide tank would be good for a hystrix for a long time.

If you don't have room for a FW ray, look into a saltwater ray. There are many smaller species (Round rays, yellow rays etc...) that you can keep in typical 150 gallon foot prints.
