Well Yesterday i went to one of my lfs's to buy some mouse litter and i went to the fish section they had some 10-12 year old selling fish. the worse part is he didnt know the first thing about keeping fish. he sold some dude a barramundi and said it wouldnt get bigger than 60cm. secondly as i walk around and i see coloured cats in one of the sections. i look and see dyed albino corydoras catfish. they were around .7-1cm and they were dyed hideously. i hope that this is the first and last i see of dyed fish in australia.usually theyd have some alright staff and decent fish collection. but this day i was appauled. the worst part is who they are targetting to sell theese fish. all the new comers to the hobby who are attracted by the novelty not knowing the way it is done.anyway i just wanted to share my concern that dyed fish may be introduced in australia.

Dyed cories? Aw man that's too much. I hope the guys doing they dyeing caught a cory spine stab for their trouble...bastards.

Over here I've seen the glassfish for years of course, and red parrots, and oscars (which are supposedly tattooed rather than dyed). The whole dyed fish thing really sucks.

Yeah this practice of dying and tatting up fish is just wrong. I was at a lfs a couple of days ago and so some albino africa cichlids with orange lines all down their sides. That was the last time I'll ever go there.

They do a lot of dyed fish over here, it's discusting.

Really, I've only ever see one shop with them. Most sign an anti-dying agreement.
Basically, I wouldn't give a store any money but instead of just walking out, I'd tell them why, and that they would loose a lot of custom for as long as they support that disgusting practice....

I agree, dyed fish are just not aesthetically pleasing to the eye as natural colours are.

mean mean mean, no dyed fish could ever be as pretty as the natural thing! I think a little reversal should be put onto the evil people doing this!

Check this site for more details on dyeing.

Albino and clear-bodied fish are most vulenrable to being dyed by unscrupulous breeders.
