dyi styrofoam background question

i am planning to do a 3d background for my 75 gallon, i want it to have rock or root patern and only about 1inch thick
can someone help with a coup0le of questions:

what type of styrofoam should be used for this. can i get it from homedepot?
what do i use to make the pattern? what do i use to paint it?
what do i use to glue it to the glass?

Im just doing one now

Any styro will do as it will be covered anyway.
Use aquarium safe silicone.

Ill post some pics of mine tonight to help you along. Im covering mine in cement but the colours are brilliant
