Just got the glass and in starting today. Should be getting a digicam in 3-4 days so I will post the pictures of the whole project (tank, stand, and wet/dry)

That would be cool! Good luck on the building, how far are you? What size tank?

Cool can't wait!!!!! :woot:

The tank is a 90 gal, but has a 6'x2' footprint. It basically took me an hour to put everything together and seal it up. Just have to wait till tommorrow to put on the top pieces of glass to brace it from bowing. It was really easy, fun (if you dont mind getting your hands all sticky),and I saved a ton of money.

good luck. and how much did everything end up costing you? did you save vs. getting a used tank with all the accessories?

The glass and sealant ended up costing me $200. The tank is 6'x2'x1' 90 gal and is drilled. Basically I couldnt find anything this size used so idk if I would have saved buying the tank used. I did however get a few quotes on the tank that I ended up building and it would have cost me $400-500. I also built a stand which cost about $100 (wood, screws, varnish and paint brushes). The wet/dry I built cost me about $120 (got the 30 gal tank free, mag drive 9.5 cost $80 shipped, 4 gallons of the small bio balls were $30 shipped, and the acrylic was $10). I saw a few new custom made wet/dry sumps similar to the one I made, but without bio balls or a pump and they cost upward of $200.

It wasnt a cheep project, but it was fun and it did save me a good amount of money.

Glass & sealant for $200? That's a really good price considering the glass thickness needed for this size of tank (12mm?). Is that a typo, or are you really only making it 12" front to back? That's a *big* tank for holding a lot of little fish ;~)

its only 12 tall so it dont have to be so thick

looking foward to pics :)
