ok after a hard day i stopped to check on my bichirs as i normally would, then i noticed a red swelling on my del's anal fin, i initially though it was a nip caused by the endli so i continue on, after a few hours i checked again to see if there was indeed some agression between the tankmates then i noticed the del lying on its back, its bottom swelling and bleeding. the del is bleeding all over and finding it on its back tells me it is indeed dying and suffering. i think it is a bacterial infection or some sort of infection ( still not sure ), red poop was also present which indicates that it is also bleeding from within.

water parameters normal
no new tankmates
current tankmates (1 endli endli, 2 p. ornates, one p. sen, bgk and a botia)
biggest size differential P. Endli endli 12", P. Del 8"
food: hikari sinking carn and hikari sinking wafers

preparing a hospital tank, hoping for the best, otherwise i may have to freeze him already.
help please! all these in a matter of hours.

You can try anti biotics in the hospital tank it won't hurt but personaly I'm notholding out much hope as have seen this before and the outcome wasn't good-Anne

Sorry I couldn't be of more help

That happened to my p. polli..I can see from the pics that you use Gravel or is that pebble substrate..It might have accidently ingested a sharp one htah may be causing its internal bleeding and it mught have passed one hence the anal bleeding...My polli managed to pass the pebble it ate and its anus swelled just like yours thats why I recognized what happened to your Del, But mine never bled internaly like yours I just changed the water and addded some salt to keep water clean and minimize bacteria...

that blows dude but dont give up! pull him thru! then u can say u did every thing u could. i agree it seems like he may have passed a rock......

deangelo = yeah it is, or was

thanks guys, it could have swallowed some pebbles, but he's been in this tank for almost a year now and this would be the first time if she indeed swallowed some substrate.

will keep you guys posted, i tried putting some betadine on the anal wound to prevent more infection but i couldn't do more with the bleeding all over the body, it's all messed up underneath the scales, as you can see in the pic. i really suspect bacterial but we can only find out if i open him up, but im still hopng for the best, still no sign of improvement.

tankmates are doing well, did a 50%WC already on their tank, will medicate as a last resort.

she didn't make it, saw her floating already w/ clouded eyes, she's gone. couldn't make myself open her up.

that sucks... :( Sorry for your loss

sorry for the loss it sounds like a fast moving bacteria infection could of been from a swallowed rock. other then that i don't know
