So jelly bean parrot cichlids are dyed?! I didnt know this. I thought that it was illegal to dye animals bc didn't they used to dye chicks/ducklings at fairs and that got banned? Is this harmful to the fish? Are there other fish that are dyed?

Yes, there are other fish that are dyed. Oscars, tetras, glassfish and few others I can't recall right now. It is not illegal in the USA to dye fish and most shops will sell them. It is detrimental to their health and dyed fish are often already sickly and disease prone in the shop. Buyer beware on this issue. All dyed fish are best avoided IHO.

Wow that is seriously screwed up.

Next they will be spray painting puppies. :(

I don't know about that. What about Free Willy? Oh wow I'm sorry I can't even type that with a straight face. Anyway, is there one main company or group of suppliers supplying these fish or do the shops do them themselves? How does that work?

Dying dogs has happened recently. I remember last year a girl dying her dog as part of its holloween costume and getting fined for pet abuse. There was a woman in PA that was piercing kittens and docking their tails. She sold them as goth kittens. I think in Russia they get those Sphynx cats tattooed.

I think dying fish is worse than dying the hair on your dog. The fish have to be removed from the water, held down, and injected.

Dogs are not harmed by the kind of dyes used on them. Food safe dyes are typically used on their fur, not injections into their muscles.
