i checked my tank today, and saw one of my yellow lab cichlids laying on diagonally, I dipped my net in to catch it, and it swam away, but then went back to laying down. I scooped it up, and put it in a small aquarium I use to transport fish which is about 2.5 gallons. Does anyone know what could have caused this and what i can do. It is upright now in the new tank, but it still isn't swimming around. It was fine yesterday. I don't have any more testing supplies, but all the rest of the fish seem to be fine. Its a 55 gallon with 14 medium Africans.

After closer inspection, i believe i have found the problem. The side fins are split to the point where i don't think it has enough to propel itself through the water. What would you all recommend i do to speed the growth besides putting salt in it which i am about to do.

I use Melafix. Is very good helping the growth of the fins. There may be a very agressive fish in the tank wo make that damage.

It's not a good idea to have an aquarium and have no water test kit. It's the first thing that needs to be done when you get an aquarium.
