What are some sighns that a pair is froming in central american cichlids? My firemouths have been sparing but the "loser" dosen't run away like the rest of the fish. It just kind of sits there even when the other one chrges it just stands its ground. They occasionaly spar a little too. They are still very small. No more than 2in.

well my gts are like 2.5in and i think a pair is forming between them because i will see them swimming together and then i see them both (at different times not together though) chase off the spare female i have and when they do charge at each other they end up swimming in little circles, what your saying sounds more like fighting but do they also swim together when not fighting? and do they swim in little circles around each other (without flaring) if you could get a vid of their behavior it would be easier to tell but pretty much if it doesnt seem like they are trying to kill each other or are always pushing the other one out of their area then its possible they are a forming pair (do you know if its male/female yet? dont know anything about firemouths so dont know when you can sex them)

do you see and "tail whipping" or "vibrating" behaviors displayed by the fish? Basically does one fish slap the other with its tail or does one look like its having an underwater seizure?

haha yeah i forgot to add those, LMAO i love that nelson "underwater seizure" haha

Yeah there is tail slapping. Tey got in a pretic epic fight a few days ago but, every time the dominant one confronts the other one it dosen't swim away it just kind of submits and keeps going. Now im not seeing them together as much but one is definatly submiting to the other but it dosen't swim away. Im so sorry this is so hard to explain. Im going to try to get a video or something.

as long as they do not kill each, things are looking good

Nah thier mostly show. A few nipped fins but nothing serious.
