Ears normal???

i believe that it could possibly be very young. i dont know for sure but thought i heard that young show those gill things, or it could have just been juveniles of one species of bichir and not all of them. im not sure. ill leave it to the experts

Not ears at all, they are external gills, used for breathing while their "lungs" mature.

All bichirs have them when young, some retain them longer than others. I've had 1.5" babies that never had external gills, and i've seen 6"+ endis with huge flaring gills.

My Endi doesnt have them, Im thinking its young

Yes...all baby bichirs have external gills but they eventually lose them, some earlier than others.
