I have 2 Juruparis. One in with pbass and one with Oscars & SD's. I have found that the food they most enjoy is cut up massivore tablets. I know it's sort of strange but it sinks well and when cut up into very little bits they can eat it it fairly quickly. Have noticed good growth for the one that is in with the pbass.
Just started with the one with the oscars. Biggest challenge with that tank is the SD's which basically frantically consume anything they can get their little mouths on.
In the pbass tank my pbass ignore massivore.

Just passing this along. Juruparis grow so slow but this food is helping a lot. Eartheaters can be challenged by tank mates to get their food. Massivore seems to help with this. Other sinking food works to a degree but they seem to really crave massivore.

Both Juruparis love bits of krill but unfortunately their tank makes also love this.

Most Geos prefer smaller bits that sink, ratherthan large pellets.
In nature they sift the sandy substrate to find small larval insects, mollusks and detritus.
Although their mouths are large, that is a bit misleading as to what they prefer.

Yes. I have tried the NLS mini pellets which sink pretty well. Maybe they are too hard and take time to soften up. Both Jurus eat flake food.
The massivore seems to absorb water fairly quickly and it appears they really like the taste.
In one tank I have pebbles on one side of the tank. The juru loves to rummage through them. He also sucks up pebbles and spits them out. Getting that detritus you mentioned. He can be a noisy little bugger.

Stomach analysis varies between Satanoperca species according to some sources. For example, lilith reportedly eats more insects (seasonal, otherwise plant matter), with jurupari it's small fish (seasonal, otherwise plant matter, seeds, fish scales incidental in the detritus, etc.). Google "Stanoperca jurupari stomach contents" or similar and you'll likely find some of the same references I've seen on this.

So like other Satanoperca (and a lot of other Amazon region cichlids) their diet varies by season, which to me means treating jurupari like omnivores, not full on carnivores, is probably best long term.

(Personally, I haven't had any issues with small geos eating small NLS pellets over the years.)

Well it seems to help them grow, I add vitamins to it and they seem to relish it.
