I bought this from N-E Cichlids as a geophagus sp. red head, but have heard that it looks otherwise. Can I get a positive id on my new geo? He/she is around 5" and shows a bit of red hue on the forehead area at times.
Looks like an altifrons or abalios, not sure which. Really need plain photos without the DoF fading out the caudal markings From what I can see of the caudal fin I'd be very tempted to say it's an abalios.
G. abalios have red eyes, G. altifrons has abdominal spots that cover only 2-3 scales. Maybe you could use cf. or aff. with altifrons, but to me it looks to be G. megasema anyway.
