Australia
have no idea about anything related to earth eaters
thinking of adding them as tank mates
im confident that my tex wont bother them
looking at about 4
any ideas as to what species would work well?
also any general info to get me started would be good
pretty limited to choice of species in australia though

only species I would recommend with a species with aggression like texas, would be brasiliensis or maybe steineys

hes not an agressive fish that ive noticed
very timid even with smaller species such as danios

Id say it will only be a matter of time before you see at least some level of aggression, if its a true Texas (H. Cyanoguttatus). If its a carpintis, Id say the same, just not on the level of a cyano and could possibly tolerate eartheaters that dont get half its size. Danios arent a threat to its food source, most eartheaters would be by their sheer size alone.

I've had a full grown male Cyano with Geophagus before, and no problems at all between the 2.

It all really depends on the tank size.. Also, a real "Texas" is going to be more territorial than a "commonly referred to as" Texas (Carpintis) and the tank size will play a factor as well..

Which eartheater species are you interested in? Learning about them before throwing them into a deathtrap would be the way to go..

I kept an Acarichthys heckelii with a highly aggressive severum and a Vieja for a few months and he did fine and totally held his own with the other two (both of which are larger than him). A Texas is going to get even more aggressive than my Sev and Vieja though....

you know whats weird is i ave quite a few different cichlids and my geophagus braslilias cichlid [pearl/eartheater] is about 2-3 inches give or take and i also have a texas escondido which is about 4.5 inches [alot bigger then the eartheater]and these 2 outta ALL my fish r soooo mean to my other cichlids but for some reason these 2 get along greaaat i had to put them into a smaller tank til we can switch the fish around but since then those 2 r like 2 peas in a pod. U see shes alot bigger then my eartheater but my texas escondido took her right under her fin-almost like a momma its funny bc the other cichlids r just a lil smaller then my escondido but alot bigger then my eartheater.
