Ive been planning to get a 500-1000 gal tank BUT what if a earthquake hits my area?are acrylic tanks better or glass? It would suck if it cracked :( any ideas anyone?

I'm thinking a sturdy base is what's going to make or break it. I had an earthquake hit my place with the e.c. about an 1/8th of a mile away, the water was popping etc real weird. I've never dealt with the amount of gallons you're talking about though. I wasn't on a concrete basement floor either so I'm not sure if being on the 2nd floor, the house provided some shock absorption. I'm thinking if the base is good then it goes back to being, it is what it is. - N

Maybe time to look what the famous aquascaper takashi ammano does? Since he lives in earthquake prone Japan... I think i remember reading an article that said he had to have some type of special concrete laid down where he placed his tank...

Put it this way, if an earthquake is big enough to knock over that tank your house might not be standing anymore. So a fish tank is the least of your worries.
