Earthworms as a staple

Feeding rays is a chore. Due to the fact that they need a variety of vitamins to stay happy, healthy, and to promote longer life. As pups I feed predominantly nightcrawlers. As they grow the worms become an occasional treat. The majority of their diet becomes shrimp, tilapia, scallops, mussels, and squid. Also very heavy on your pocket. Pellets can be used as part of their diet also, but are a lot messier for your filtration. I recommend constant variety.

Very true statement, I’m having a hard time getting mine to eat pellets. They chew on them but don’t commit. I do feed shrimp also but I found the night crawlers to be easier so I was wondering if I just stuck to them. I’ll keep mixing the shrimp and worms

That's how I do it. Chop the shrimp n tilapia up really small and mix it w the chopped up crawlers. Sometimes they take to it fast, sometimes it takes months. :stingray: also, if u wanna go the pellet route have u tried new life spectrum jumbo w garlic? It's like stingray crack.

Amazingly enough I’ve been lucky and all my rays like pellets. But mainly I feed mix of tilapia, shrimp, scallops and mussels. I only use Night crawlers and black worms for treats or a ray giving me trouble with eating.

I don't have nor have I kept freshwater stingrays but in nature they eat alot of mollusks and crustaceans. I did have saltwater rays when I did saltwater, their diets are about the same. You may want to try frozen crabs and gut loaded live crayfish to get more of a complete diet if they don't take pellets.
