earthworms - question

I ran out to Wally mart the other day and they where out of the smaller panfish worms, just the larger nightcrawlers.

Well I put a couple in my tank unfortunately they where a little too big for my cichlids to handle..Question is, if the earthworms get into the gravel will they drown? any experiences? should I root them out?

I rinse my worms in a strainer(Wives love this)then i freeze them.Then you can break off whatever size you need.Of coarse i freeze everything,Crickets,Crayfish,Grasshoppers,Minnos etc lol

they will drown but not instanly takes a while I had one alive in my tank for over a day... but I would fish them out....

ive found earthworms in my gravel alive over 3 weeks after putting them in the tank, which to this day i can not understand how that is possible!

Earthworms never seem to reach the gravel in my tank for some reason.
