Having trouble getting ray to eat but he shows a lot of interest!

The easiest thing a feed mine is frozen calimari rings that get used for fried calimari but its easy because its very easy to cut and easy for the ray to eat because its in strips. Shrimp gets mushy if it gets a little warm before its cut but in general I feed my motoro that.

Earthworms and blackworms to get it eating and fatten it up. Then I feed smelt which they like and shrimp. Two of mine will eat shrimp pellets aswell.

hmm ill try that eric.. thanks for the suggestion.

For a new ray, its best to stick with Blackworms for a while. Theyre the easiest food for rays to eat. Fatten them up for a few weeks then switch to shrimp or nightcrawlers.

When I got my first ray, it didn't eat for the first 3 weeks I had him. Then one day, I tried rosies and he wolfed them down. Now he's on a diet of 3 different foods. And only three because it's all I can get him to eat.
Blackworms
Ghost Shrimp
Rosies
I have tried red wiggler worms, also called trout worms, and if hungry enough he will eat them. Although for the most part the latter three are the way to go. Pull any rosies out that he doesn't eat though b/c after they've been in there for more than like 20 minutes, they generally can no longer smell them. :stingray:

give him shrimp. if it doesn't show interest remove it immediately. repeat the process for the next few days until he finally takes it.

I use shrimp and mine never refuse!! They use to be more difficult to eat when the water is in a bad temperature!
