I have become interested in the dwarf pikes lately. There is not much information on specific species of dwarf pikes ,but a lot of info on pike cichlids as a whole. I guess my question would be which dwarf pike is right for my tank?

I have a 75 gallon with floating plants (frog bit), a lot of wood, a few rocks, and a black sand bottom. I plan to plant a few larger plants in the tank as well. The tank is currently fish-less and will be that way for a while. From what I understand these cover-filled conditions are ideal for a dwarf pike.

I had planned to get two angelfish, a group of sword tails, school of emperor tetra(or any medium sized tetra), group of cory cats, and then a pair of rams. I like this set-up and I am very familiar with all of these fish having kept a tank like this for a few years in the past. I however would love to try the dwarf pikes and am willing to change my stocking plan if they are not compatible with any dwarf pikes.

The species I was looking at was Crenicichla regani as it seems to be peaceful according to what I read. I would like two , but I am not trying to breed them or anything.

I think that looks like my best bet. I would still love to hear some first hand experience about them however.

Btw love your youtube channel!

Thanks. I had them before in a 30g and they bred a bunch of times. Make sure there are plenty of decors and a few caves. Not as picky as Cr. noto and not as aggressive as Cr. comp.

Wallacii are also fairly easy, but yes regani is usually the best to start with. Comps are little terrors to each other.

Style away from comps and nothos. They need a very large tank tk manage their conspecific aggression. Regani are the easiest IMO and very easy tk pair up. Buy 2 males and 5 females and you. Get 2 pairs.
