I use Convicts.

Setup - One pair in a 25g tank, and a separate 20g for the fry
Sexing - females will have orange bellys, males wont
Breeding conditions - to get them to breed I raise the water temp from 75 to 81 over the course of a day, keeping it at 81 constantly after that.
Other - Keep up with the water changes, clean water never hurts.;)

Then just sit back and wait...

cons fry take long to grow just use some mollies or guppies they breed faster

Do you plan to breed the "feeders" in a seperate tank or add the pair to your preditor tank?

It is true that Dempseys have larger broods... but they also require a larger tank or take up more space in your preditors tank...

In my experience, Con fry and JD fry grow at about the same rate until they are 1/2" or so...

I've never kept a pair of fish soley for the purpose of giving me feeders... but I often keep fish as pairs and then use the unwanted offspring as feeders...

Guppy

Rather easy, some CA/SA cichlids are paticularily easy to breed and keep. Full grown Managuense get up to 10000 fry. And are quick to grow out.

go guppies go!!
