Easter basket grass for bio-media?

Easter time is here, and as I was buying candy, basket and plastic grass to hide, it occured to me, can this stuff be used as media in my sump? It is plastic, lots of surface area and super cheap. Should we stock up on it before they pull it off the shelves until next year?

I think the stuff would compact too much, the pot scrubbers are stiff enough that when water flows over them they still retain their shape

I think it would plug the filter like a plastic bag would, definately would make your filter pump work harder.
