I can run set up completely silent by closing valves partially.. or fairly loud with all 4 drains wide open...

it’s the same turnover regardless ya?

water falling farther in overflow box, more oxygenation?

what’s the best way to run for optimal filtration? Or doesn’t matter?

Running it at max either way you are only going to get as much flow as the return pump can push.
If I’m understanding, you want to know if running the drains loud with a lot of air crashing around in the drain is beneficial?
It will probably add a little more O2 to the water but only marginally.
If the system is healthy and adequate Oxygen is being provided by the normal operation. It really isn’t necessary to run it loud and turbulent.
It’s really up to you.
If the noise isn’t a problem you can run either way.

yes, thank you! Was wondering if noisy vs silent - drain wide open vs 1/2 open and quiet made a difference in filtration capabilities...

exactly what I was looking for... thanks!

got a little more than the 5ppm nitrate than I’ve been holding at...

Agree with BiG-G and one of the “features” people choose Herbie drains over conventional ones is because they are quiet.
