I am Curious to see if anyone out there has a Tip on trying to identify the sex of a datnoid?

I am hoping to find a mate for my datnoid and having one of the opposite sex would be nice on the SLIGHT chance of breeding!

Would Love to know!

Thanks!

As of yet I don't think anyone has successfully identified exteriorly the sex of a datnoid.

i thought i did at one point because i noticed the shape of the anal fin on 2 of my dats was very different than all the others. then i realised that it was partially missing (probably bitten) on both dats..lol. im pretty sure its like vanimate says, there isnt really a way to id them just yet.

quite the misleading thread title :naughty:

But like it was said, no easy signs to help us distinguish sex

no way to ID the sex visually, and even if you got a male and female, noone has ever bread them in a home aquarium.

I dont understand why everyone thinks you can tell between a male and a female...i dont think there would be such a high demand of widebars if you could tell the sex of them.

some fish have been mislabeled by scientists due to this exact same problem, some piranha were given there own ID due to missing parts of anal and other fins making it look different to an already ID'd species when they collected them.

anyway dats are apparently not sexually dimorphic.
