Today i just caught the biggest channel catfish in my life. After catching it, I took it home and put it in my 40 gal bucket. Also no chemicals were added to the water since it was rain water with some tap water. I was planning to feed it wild live fish and crayfish from the stream near by. Is it ok to fatten up the catfish and eat it later?

if its the biggest channel catfish of your life, then it should be eating size already. Dont try to house it then eat it. Just eat it. Too many factors go into what you are trying to do.

Yea I don't know how long a decent sized channel would last in a 40 gallon container, just eat it now. Did you get any pics?

My pictures are blurry as of now. Trying to get better pictures tonight and then filleting it to eat tomorrow. Compared to pictures i seen on google this fish is probably not the biggest but it is the biggest that i ever caught :)

if its ur biggest and it fits in a 40 gallon bucket u need to fish more :P - j/k congrats on ur biggest cat enjoy it lol

How long or how much does it weigh, ive got some buddies who have nailed some monster channel cats in the rivers in PA, mostly the susquehanna and the schykll or however its spelled.

But seriously, let it go or put it out of its misery.

schuylkill (pronounced: skoo-kill), lol! yeah we got some big ones here, i think because very few people eat them out of here.

to op: i'd eat it now, i'd eat the crayfish you were going to feed it too! if it gets sick or dies it's going to be a total waste.
