Just wanted to pass it along that I found on ebaysomebody who has 6 fx5's left, new, for $239.99 free shipping...I bought 2 today as I needed to upgrade my tanks.

I used to be able to get one at my lfs, who took cash only for 199.99 plus tax, but all the prices on these things jumped up majorly lately

I'm always looking for good deals, hope this can help someone

you can actually get them 10 bucks cheaper off ebay but you usually have to wait longer.. I got one a couple weeks ago for 229 shipped.

Yeah, I checked out the history of the ones sold and saw the ones in July were that price. I wasn't sure what that was about, but oh well. I needed to upgrade my one tank and had been searching. Plus, that's still a lot cheaper than 299.99 plus tax at my lfs (cash only). I guess that I will keep an eye out on them and see when the price drops again, and consider getting some more ;)

I picked one up on ebay a few days ago for $189 + 30 shipping = $219 total.

Usually the ones you have to bid on are the best bets. If the seller starts them out high (at $189) you'll probably be the only bidder and win. The Buy It Now ones are always more expensive and not worth it IMO. Just wait 1-2 days for the $189 auctions to close and you should be able to save even more money.

I think buying them new on ebay is better than buying them on craigslist or even MFK. When you buy on CL, you have no idea how old the FX5 really is. People will say "It's only 6 months old" but you never know for sure. When you buy it new, you pay an extra $20 and know for sure that you're getting a good, new filter. And you get the full 3 year warranty too. It's worth it to buy new because the price difference between new and used is so slim.

I received mine on wednesday...that's good to know about the bidding. Seems like there's always so many ppl on there looking for fx5's. I didn't see any under $200, that's why I paid the buy it now price. But, even still, a lot cheaper than in the stores. I agree about the used ones. You never know, plus you don't know how short they might've cut the hoses. The fx5 just barely fit on the 265g. May not have fit if we bought it used....

I'd like another one, so will keep an eye out for the bidding. Good to know
