HI every one i just got a EBJ and a eureka red i was wondering what are the tank req
on the EBJ i have a 40g and a 55g tank which one will work ?

i dont know what a eureka red is assuming its an african, but as far as the ebjd goes i would put it in the 55g, that tank should be good for life, these guys are quite weak when little, how big is your new guy? keep a close eye out for parasites and keep water pristine, GOOD LUCK

Aulonocara jacobfreibergi are very aggressive... and get to around 9". Not a good idea as a tankmate for an EBJD.

ya what i thought there both small like 2" may be .....the EBJD i have read that a 40 g would be good for a long time the eureka red cichlid is going in the 55g soon as i can get him in there with the other peacock i have. but its so small i think it might get eaten if i put it in there atm.

A 55 gallon should be good for a single EBJD. I have kept both, but have much more experience with Africans than EBJDs. I would not mix Africans with SA/CA cichlids, but Eurekas are not that aggressive compared to most Africans. I have an albino in my Malawi tank and would consider him one of if not the most non-aggressive fish in there.

if you had already decided which tank you were going to put them in before getting anyones advice then why did you ask? and if you got an ebjd with good genes then it wont grow that much slower than a regular JD and 40g will def not be good enough

i did not decide till i read the post's.

I know the 40g will not be good for him for life but i can grow him out then buy a new tank.

then take my Africans and put them in the new tank.
