oooooookkkkkkkk soooo i did something stupid and got a juvie ebjd on saturday, figured since he was for sale for cheap and the lfs had, had them for a long time maybe he wouldnt have parasites, unfortunately none of them were pooing at the time so i had to take my chances and my small tank that would normally be my quarantine has my festae fry in it (only have 3 left and they are .5in to a little bigger though not sure on exact sizes) so i get him home and put him in the small tank and saw him poo and it was normal but then the next day i saw the dreaded stringy clear/white poo :swear::swear: so waited a day to see if i could see him poo again and while i havent seen him poo i saw one of my festae fry poo white now AGHHHH!!!! ok so Tojo gave me some great advice and today i started treatment with jungle parasite clear, HOPEFULLY the fry will be able to survive it, all the fish are still eating and active so im going to give treated food right away and hopefully i can get rid of the parasites before any of the fish are really weakened by them. one question i have is that with the food, on one thread tojo was saying to soak a frozen food in the meds like brine shrimp, and i will do this, but i was wondering if you can also do this with their dry food as the fry can eat brine shrimp but i dont want to feed it to them every day as when i did this i lost several fry to what seemed like bloat so i think it was just too much protein to soon, so their main food is still hikari first bites so can i just soak their hikari and the ebjd pellets in the meds as well? and should i feed the treated food at every meal or just once a day as i am currently feeding them 3x a day with the brine shrimp being fed every 3 days, and also i was told to do all three treatments but the package says to only do three if they have anchor worms or fish lice which are external parasites, so should i do 2 or 3 treatments and should i do only 25% wc like it says or the 50% i would normally do before adding the next 2 tablets?

thanks in advance for any advice, im really hoping the fry are big enough to make it through the meds:cry:

ok so to add to the continuing drama, just saw the ebjd poo after eating his dinner of pellets soaked in meds and his poo is normal AHHH soooooo does that mean the parasites arent very advanced if he sometimes poos normal and sometimes poos white? its too soon for the meds to have done anything so its just weird AHHHHHHH, but yeah so i am definitely going to continue with the second treatment just in case would rather go ahead and get rid of them now before they get serious and affect his behaviour but should i do the third treatment?

and havent seen the fry poo since i saw the white poo yesterday so dont know if they are pooing both colors as well or not

oh and i have had the lights off all day except when i fed them and boosted the temp up to 85 this morning

Just went thru this myself. No need to treat the food if you dosed Jungle parasite clear w/ praziquantel. 2x doses in 48hrs. was plenty for my Festae, just remember to remove the carbon. I did 50% water changes because I removed the media and thru it away. Mine are adults and with no carbon or media the house smelled damn fishy. Now I'm soaking the food in garlic extract as a follow up. Garlic creates an undesirable enviorment for parasites within the fishes digestive tract and adds a great boost to the immune system. Heres a link to my expeience with white stringy poop if your interested.

hey thanks you have some nice fish there i hope my festae grow quickly and look like that soon (they are just now getting out of the see thru phase lol) and yeah i removed the carbon but didnt removed my bio media, im hopeing the parasites werent in the tank long enough to have eggs in it, just would be a PIA to go get new media and use cycle until its ready ALL OVER again but i dont know i may end up doing just that ugh... but yeah thanks for you advice and so far they all still look great so im thinking the fry should be ok (fingers crossed) and didnt know that about the garlic did you just go get extract from the grocery store and how long do you soak their food in it before feeding?

ooooook so i did the second treatment today and so far so good, everyone is looking great except for one of the fry is staying towards the top in a corner (but im pretty sure this is from bullying from the other fry not the treatment) but so im going to wait another 48hrs do big wc and then add carbon to remove rest of meds, hopefully everything works out and everyone will be parasite free, besides the whole parasites thing im really glad i went ahead and got the ebjd, i think i lucked out with this one as he is not shy AT ALL, anytime i go to the tank he is right at the front and as soon as i open the lid he is right there at the top of the water waiting for food, its also funny cus when im doing wc he is right there checking out the hose and everything not afraid one bit, i really cant wait to see what this guy grows into:)

ebjd are just to hard to keep alive

i want one sooo badly but every time i see them there sick

yeah i mean mine had parasites but apart from that he is a champ, he eats like a little pig not shy at all and seems like nothing else is wrong with him so hopefully i lucked out and got one with better genes, but the lfs i got him from had also had them all for like 4 months i think (which should have rang the alarm bell in my head since they hadnt grown in that time but oh well whats done is done lol) but so i knew they didnt have any other kind of illness n person said they hadnt had any die off but yeah i dont do anything special, no uv sterilizer or anything just do my 50-60%wc every sunday making sure to vacuum top of sand while i do, so i guess we will see whether he thrives or not...........hopefully i will be starting thread in couple months on how big he has gotten:popcorn: i think the main thing is just getting them from a good source i think there is supposed to be a really good vendor on aquabid for ebjd but cant remember his name

n hey was your quote an actual thread that someone started or was it a sarcastic post??

That Prazi works wonders. As for the garlic - you can use Hikari Biogold w/ garlic, the expenssive sold in bottles Garlic extract - just soak the pellets in it - or boil of some fresh garlic and when it cools feed them chunks.-------------Glad to here everythings goin' well and I'm sure your Festae will surpass mine in looks.

thanks for the tips otherone i think im gonna start feeding the guys in my big tank garlic chuncks, and see if i can soak the frys food in the extract, n thanks yeah they are already little monsters there were 4 in the tank (20g L) but they killed off the smallest one (he was so scared to come out even after i divided him that he practically starved himself to death:cry:) and now the other smaller one im probably going to have to divide, its crazy these are .5in fish in a 30in long tank with plants and tons of little hiding places and they are still stressing each other out so i think adding the dempsey was actually a good thing because he is def the dominant one in the tank now and i think it will be good to have the festae grow up with a dominant in the tank other than them or i wont have a chance in hell of adding them to my "community" tank lol

Im glad your fish are doing well. I use garlic also on occasion and feed NLS thera A which has garlic. I Still highly recommend the third treatment because if you actually look up the type of parasite that effects the ebjd commonly it is the same that the box directs you to treat 3x for. And 25%-50% water change dosent really matter it your choice. I do a 75% change when it is alldone. do you have pics of the survivors?

Always always remember. An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
