I know each fish is different...but mine just sits in a corner or under a piece of drift wood...not very active.
How do they "normally" act?

I've never kept EBJD's, but my regular JD's are rather timid in comparison to the other fish I keep...they do tend to hide more than the others.

But it could also be just that he is new?
How long have you had him?

Just try to get him/her familiar with you...

How long have you had the EBJD?

I got mine at 7", beautiful specimen, but very timid and skittish. Kept him for 6 months or so and his behaviour got worse not better. I found mine was most comfortable in a quiet located tank, fewer tankmates and with a place to hide but was still v.skittish so had to move him along. Shame as he was stunning. The buyer who took him kept him with large Oscars and he updated me saying the EBJD was doing well, v.confident and that he has added a Flowerhorn as well...tried to warn him against this for the EBJD's sake, not had any updates since.

I have had him for a couple weeks now, he is in a 10 gal (for now) and the only thing larger than him is an african butterfly who just sits in a corner.

The tank is in a low traffic area of the house..he has actually seemed to become a little more reclusive compared to when I first put him in. Once I get my spare 30 gal cleaned out I think I will get a second EDJD and put them in there

i got 2 EBJD from Ken, at the CAAS (Charlotte Area Aquarist Society) Auction and well both went into my 20gal fry/juvi grow out tank they are small, after about 4 hrs the male was trashing Apistos the other EBJD and plecos, i moved him into a 10gal next to his mate so they can see each other throw the glass but he wont get to her.

if hes lonely maybe a school of tetras to make him feel a bit safer and then he could come out.

there is a trio of one kind of fish...i cannot remember the name of it for the life of me with a few loaches in there...but when I do get the 30 running again I definatly plan of getting a shoal of something
