Hello,
I have three EBJD's that I had purchased from someone back in September.

Well I had them in a 30 gallon tank since they were 1"(started with 5), one of my best looking ones went blind in one eye, turned white in the center. Just a week ago I setup and cycled a 75 gallon which they now reside in and love.

Another of the Three (my ugliest) has a haze on both of his eyes and seems to swim around aimlessly as if his eyes are going blind. I know the first ebjd cant see out of his eye as he has trouble eating and seems to miss the food on his attempts.

Is this bad genetics or what? Thanks. Has anyone had eye problems and gotten them to clear up. i would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Wow.

I don't about the genetics... But I do know I had a bunch of Cichla come in a year and a half ago that got Cloudy the same and I was able to save them one ended up with a bad eye... And then One up chucked his meal and the whole tank was dead inside of twenty minutes :(

EBJD's are still however experimental... in my opinion... So it very well could be bad genetics...

I may quarantine the Ugly Duckling and experiment some medications on him.

Thanks for the response Tongue. These I believe are Argentina x Asia cross.

there just deformed the first guy i had one that looked exactly the same
he was my fav for some odd reason he got that ick when he got the cloudy eyes
and died but yeah hmm

in my experience with cichlids is that cloudy eye is a sign of a nitrite or ammonia spike i notice that you had just put them in a new tank. i am willing to bet that you do not have enough bacteria to keep the water pm's down. ive had this happen alot to me in the past. try getting a nice well used sponge filter in that tank like a hydro spoonge 5 and it should clear it up in a day or 2. i had a big out brake of cloudy eye in my discus tank after i had moved them i through a old sponge filter in there and 5 out of 6 cleared up in a day. also throw a little proxcide in there as well. good luck with your fish.

Thanks for the responses.

I cycled the tank with an AC110 that came off of my 90 gallon and is still on the 75. I also used water from the 30 gallon. One of the EBJD's had the eye cloud before I even Moved them to the 75.

Thanks again.

Just because you did that doesn't mean you can't have an ammonia spike. You need to test your water params and ph. Even a well estabblished tank can have ammonia spike or high nitrates.

Checked out all my parameters tonight. PH was a little low @6.4, but other than that everything else checked in fine. Did a 25% water change as well. Ill keep yas posted if theres any change.

I also quarantined the blind one with some meds for cloudy eye with an airator.
