Really don't know how this happened! Only thing I can think off is he ate the aquarium salt my girlfriend put in there to treat her parrot fish. I've had no aggression and no problems in the tank. I introduced a 2" Flowerhorn last night too , but I really dont think the Flowerhorn did it. Him and the EB were getting along fine last night. I'm really upset about this, by far my favorite fish I own.(ed). Only fish in the tank with him was 1 2" Flowerhorn, 2 3" Sevrum, a 5" BP, and a Syndontis cat. All have been living together for over a month and no aggression! I'm thinking the salt did him in :'(. Any other ideas? He wasn't really beat up so idk! Just really tore up about it...

It was a temporary thing, but I watched them all last night and I never saw any aggression from the Flowerhorn. Still don't honestly, towards any of the other fish. He kind of just does his own thing away from the rest of the fish...

How big was he? Did you notice white poop leading up to his death? Unfortunately, EB's are notorious for dieing for no apparent reason.

Possibly the flowerhorn killed him when you were sleeping or not paying attention...but EBJDs are notorious for dying mysteriously like mcsnapper said...Also in the future you should dissolve the salt in a container before adding it. Sorry for your loss

you and i are on the same boat. i just had mine die for no apparent reason :(

Heres one of my last ebjd purchases. Bought 3 and this one went in a record 2 days. Great fish.

Despite there being no initial aggression, when it's lights out anything can happen. But on the other end of this, most EBJD are weak genetically due to irresponsible breeders and they can die for no reason. It may or may not have been the Flowerhorn, there are too many variables to know exactly what happened. I was fortunate with my EBJD as I got him around 4". He's quite healthy, active and is not deformed.
