I had to separate these guys. I was afraid they would hurt each other. I recorded for just a few seconds then stopped the fight.

Could they both be males if they are fighting like this? I had intended to keep them together but now I don't know if that is possible!

yea i would keep them seperated or put them in a bigger tank so they have more room
or else they will pick on each other nd eventually kill each other mine did sad loss mine were hittin 4" ughh :(

Yes probably males... too bad.. but they are worth the separation...

good job on moving the fish, I just hope you moved the aggressor and not the weaker of the two!

Good looking little buggers ;) It's probably a good thing that they have the energy and will to fight - healthy fish.

I don't think lip locking is necessarily a bad thing (especially if they haven't been together for long), as long as one doesn't dominate the other. Depending on how big the tank is, you might want to give them another chance

My male severums lip-lock from time to time. It can go on for 10 - 20 minutes. Eventually one backs down and they go to separate ends of the tank to recuperate. It's mainly a dominance display. You may try again and just keep an eye on them. As long as they're not attacking each other (fins, eyes, etc.) or chasing each other to the point of being stressed, it may be okay once they work out their dominance issue.

Yea I took out the aggressor. He is in another tank loving life. :D Maybe I will try again when they grow a bit. If They can never live together that is fine. I was just hoping that by chance I would have one male and one female so they could bond... I will look up how to tell the sex and try again for a female... I feel pretty certain that with the instant aggression they are most likely both males.. I will find out for sure when I know how to tell. thanks guys for the responses!
