Ive been reading a lot about how these guys are slow growers however this little guy put on about and inch in 3 weeks. He was about 1.75" when I bought it three weeks ago and is now 2.75". I was wondering if this rate is due to it being so young and the rate will slow as it ages? Also my old lady likes to name my fish and I was wondering how old/big they need to be determine sex? Sorry about the bad photo but the little scamp is quicker than my camera.

it look like it going to be a nice EBJD. :D

i've been getting .5" a month on mine, and that's with all my attention to it.

what's your secret?

Just good food and good water. Mornings I feed NLS optimum flakes diner alternate between hikari pellets and frozen blood worms or brine shrimp with occassional treats of peas or omega one freeze dried krill. Weekly 50% wc and monthly I run my diatom to remove any possible parasites but mostly to polish the water.

I have been seeing a lot of these guys in my area. I was thinking of getting one or two but I hear so many stories about them being wimpy, short-lived fish. I hate to devote so much time on a fish just for it to die suddenly on me. Is this the case? Do you guys agree with those statements? By the way, your EBJDs look great.

^if u get one that 4" u should be fine.

Mine grew fast for the first few month that I had him. I thought people were crazy to say theey were slow to grow. Then my severum who I got a bit smaller then the ebjd. Well the Severum is twice the size of the ebjd. At around 3 inches mine slowed down. He's almost 4" and now grows slowly.

So yes at first they grow fast then slow down alot.
