Hey all havent posted in awhile . Had this EBJD since it was half an inch. I think it’s going blind and slowly on its way out. Gunna be a sad day, he(assumed) was my first “expensive” fish and got me really into this hobby.

Unfortunately our pets get old but pat yourself on the back for raising that nice looking EBJD.

Line bred "for color" fish like EBJDs are often less than robust, and seem prone to disease.
When chromosomes for color are concentrated on, and when color is a major factor in selecting what fish passes on its genetic code on, chromosomes for traits like immunity and robustness are sometimes sacrificed, and this has proven the case with many EBJDs.
As opposed to cataracts, the eyes look to me to have had been affected by some sort of infection.
Infections of the eye are often common in fish that have survived Ick, or some other malady, but take a fish with a bit of compromised immunity, and even semi virulent pathogens, can create problems.
