Hello all! This is my first post to MFK. Love the site...but anyway. Down to business.

I noticed last night that my female EBJD was spastically dashing about my 55g tank. I had already fed the tank and everything. The gold severums, male EBJD and sailfin pleco were all doing perfectly fine.

She started swimming vertically and hovered at the surface. She wasn't gasping for air but she would just hang there a while. Then she would go in small circles all the way to the bottom and fall over. I don't have any issues with the water chemistry or anything. Nothing out of the norm either. No symptoms of illness in any of the fish.

I'm not sure if this is a SBD or what but I had another female EBJD mysteriously die, too. HELP!!!

Keep in mind the EBJD are only about 2" long right now... so they're still pretty young.

Thanks for helping! :(

Any sign of white stringy poop? If so, it could be a internal parasite. You can use Jungle Parasite Cure. Hope this helps.

This happens a lot with small EBJD they are really sensitive under the 3in. mark even then you can lose them they are supceptable to parasites. I would take her out if you can and treat for them. The first thing Ive always done when I buy one is treat it before it goes into the main tank. Parasite clear should work. The only other thing I can think of is that someone was picking or chasing her and she just stressed out. Hope this helps

This has happened to me before when i picked up 3 EBJD at the LFS, 2 died within 2 weeks. So the remaining one i watch very carefully. Typically how long before they get pass 3 inch, i had mine for awhile and its still around the 2.5-2.75 in area.

I had thhe same thing happen a few days ago to a juvy green terror. The outcome was not good. He died just as fast as he got sick I had the same thing happen to my juvy jag but I did a huge water change and he seems to be better now...maybe try that? Don't forget to use water conditioner

Given the right conditions they can grow quite quickly, I got one in the later half of may that was the size of a molly and it is now quite a bit bigger than my blackberry.

Update on my little girl...

Turns out...she went into shock from being stressed/scared. A fish-ignorant friend of mine rushed into the room and all of my fish were spooked from that. She went into shock within an hour after that. She recovered from her shock but now she has deep scratches all over her body and head from when she was panicking around the tank. I hope that she can heal from that. I've only seen her eat once since she came to again. She may be foraging when I'm not there...hard to say. My other EBJD is perfectly fine still. He's happy as a clam (if not lonely). I hope she doesn't get infected during the slow healing process.....She's been "ok" for almost a week now, I believe.

Any ideas how to help her heal faster?
