well everyone about two weeks ago i took in a ebjd that someone dropped off, he sat on the bottom most of the time didnt eat and had a messed up fin, currently he eats but very picky and is a little bit more energetic, i belive hes partially blind due to the fact he bites at a piece of food clearly missing multiple times, his coloration is what i have questions about, can anyone that has experience with ebjd give me an analysis of how you think he looks? below are pictures from today as well as a baby ebjd i purchased at the same time whos doing well

BFDC92BE-37F2-4C3F-98B8-2BFEE980F13D.png His color is typical of an EBJD. Their colors can range from all blue (light or dark) to almost black with blue. To be honest with you, he looks out of proportion. His eyes are too big for his head and his head looks short. He is probably old for his size. I think that because of the size of his dorsal fin. I raised a couple that developed that fin when they were a little bigger than yours. Here is a picture to compare.

i felt the same way his eyes are almost bulging out they look so big, alot of his side has white down it like his coloation is just dull or beaten up, how old do you think mine is?

i really want to put him in my 45 with my other two jack dempseys and get him out of this quarantine but until the fry is bigger and the parents arent as aggressive ill have to wait

I won’t guess at how old he is. I suggest making sure that he is healthy before you put him in with your other fish. I do not know fish sickness very well, but he looks like his fins might be clamped down and if he has bulging eyes, he might unfortunately have some illness.

I say bulging just due to how big his head looks in comparison to his body, I’m no expert so I would definitely take others opinions but I don’t believe he’s sick, maybe stunted blind and beat up but I’m not sure if sick is on that list, atleast I hope not.

After seeing your recent pics, I agree, stunted for sure. I would keep that fish in QT until he has filled out, and hopefully regained full health.

My quarantine tank is only 10 gallons would you reccomend keeping him in there longer opposed to the 45 ?
