The young I have seen always have the black markings on them.as they grow does it go away?

The last pic was taken with a digital camera with a flash where as the middle one was taken from my iPhone. I personally think they look best with the patterns. Mines still not mature, but he's getting there. Once he does, he should retain that dark deep blue.

I have seen some with just a pure blue and some with a nice mosaic pattern. I bought three juveniles that all had the nice mosaic pattern and as they got older and dominance was established, the dominant kept most of its black and the other two lost their patterns. I think it all depends on the parentage of the EBJD, stress factors, and what you feed them. If you really want the nice metallic blue then I recommend you feed them pellets with spirulina in them.
