I don't know Dempsey's (or any cichlid's for that matter..) breeding behavior......but that looks like aggression to me. I'd get a 2nd opinion though..

They could be showing a little aggression towards each other over territory, but if you think they're male/female...it could be a sign that they're pairing. Hard to say though. My Red Bay Snook and my JD lock lips and play like they like each other too.

Might need a picture of the vents though to tell if they're male and female...seems like if they did have babies they'd look pretty sweet.

I have a pair of mating JDs, I have never seen liplocking going on between them when mating. But I have read about it in other posts.

It could just be agression, I know when I had the extra lady still in the main tank there was alot of fighting going on against her.

I'd just wait it out for now... if it gets bad then maybe try seperating them.

they are fine now in their pot together like nothing is wrong eat together and everything i never seen this and wanted to know if this was what they do when they are about to mate ?

check if any breeding tubes are showing. If they are sitting in pots together they are probably a pair...

Thats no pair my friend.. those are two males...

I have pictures of two regular Jack dempsey female and they both bit each other's mouth like that....

I've since put them in two diff tanks... But those are both the same sex... in fact.. all cichilid will do that.. they test each other's straight and territory disputes...

I think you need to get another tank for one of them... and find yourself a regular female...

But 100% sure those two are not the opposite sex..

I'll show u pic of my female fighing...
