Well i started this project quite a while ago.. Obviously with an EBJD and his counterpart... i grew them out, now about 5" blue male and 6+" dempsey female.. (she's quite fiesty, to put it nicely). Now, a year or two later I have my second batch of Blue Gene fry (there are plenty available, pm me if interested) they are now 6 months old and looking spectacular.. I recently purchased 2 new EBJDs to grow out and pair with a couple with the best females of the bunch.. Now the waiting.. Still too young to sex I am growing them out but with plenty to spare. Its more "work" than I anticipated but I enjoy it. Keeping up with frequent water changes is the most challenging, but also the most important part... I happened upon an excellent deal on dry food when a LFS was going out of buisness, so that definitely aided in saving some $$ on food. Although they do get a variety of frozen regularly, and live black worms on occassion...
Their diet has been excellent thus far and it definielt shows in their health and coloration.. They are down to 2-3 daily feedings now and have been for a month or so... I feel I am still only a novice, even after 8+ years in the hobby.. There is so much to learn and sooooo many badass fish, especially cichlids, but also many other species
I expect in a year or so I will be caring for EBJD fry instead of only blue gene..

Any guidance, questions, or comments are definitely appreciated

The next step has been taken and things are looking good.... A friend of mine and I aquired a 9 tank rack from a local fish store with tanks, and plumbing... (You can read more in the DIY section)

So with my blue gene babies and between the 2 of us we have 3 EBJD males to pair off... I will put 1 EBJD with about 6 or so Blue Gene females per 15L tank on top... They will be dwindled down when they pair off or as seen fit... We have other breeding projects going as well including discus and angels... So we will hand pick so nice females from what I have left and sell off the rest... It should be 6 months or so before we see any action from the EBJDs...
