I have a question about EBJD behavior. One of my EBJD is resting upside down. ?!?!? Other than that, it swims around normally and eats like a champ. We just got these little guys when my husband won 2 1" EBJDs at the SoCal meet. We brought them home, and put them in a quarantine tank. Good thing as they developed ick. I can't tell if this is due to being sick or if this little guy is just a weirdo. If not for the fact that he's otherwise acting like nothing is wrong, I'd assume he was on his way out.

I am treating them with CopperSafe, and raised the temp to 84. The pH has been and is about 6.6-6.8, ammonia is 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate is almost 0. These guys are eating wonderfully, and are generally exploring the tank like nothing is wrong. However, one of the EBJD seems to rest upside down, but then 'gets up' and swims around normally and eats. :screwy: This is not a behavior I am used to seeing, and wondering if anyone who owns EBJD see this kind of resting position.

I've never seen that before. I do have a neighbor that had a 6" oscar that would lay on it side for most of the day..... I thought that was crazy.

hmm could be he just has some damage to his swim bladder?

I've had many EB's for quite some time now and have yet to see one swim or lay upside down. I'm thinkin this is not a good thing.

So, fortunately, I think the whole sleeping upside down thing is just him.:screwy: He/she goes behind the filter, knocks out, and is anywhere between nose all the way down to belly in the air. But, most of the day he's zooming around, looking for food, eating really well, and following me back and forth as I walk by. I've seen swim bladder problems and I just really don't think that that's the problem, luckily. Now that he's been at this for the last week, I think he's just a weirdo. I'll update if their is any changes.

lol that is very funny wet whiskers. i have nver heard of one doing that.:D

I've had a lot of ebjds, and never saw anything like that. Ordinarily I'd say there was a problem, but you're describing it as being active and eating well, so I guess you just have a wierd fish!

Still doing awesome. Starting to grow, and probably now just bigger than an inch. Both of their faces are starting to go a really strong blue. I think these little guys are going to grow up to be just beautiful, although a little on the fat side. These guys are like tiny little garbage disposals that consume more than their fair share at every meal.
