As stated in a couple previous threads, I am going to be getting a 125 gallon tank in the near future (6'x1.5'x2') and am having trouble deciding on stock due to conflicting opinions on how an EBJD would get along with the proposed stock. Here are the two options:

1 EBJD
2-3 Severums
6 Geophagus red heads
Large school of tetras

or

3-4 Severums
6 Geophagus red heads
Large school of tetras

What do you guys think, especially taking into consideration the possible aggressiveness of the EBJD with the geos? Has anyone successfully or unsuccessfully kept an EBJD with these fish? Would either scenario be overstocked?? I'd like to get as many opinions as possible because I really want this tank to work out!!

As per my advice I believe a couple of same-sex Severums and your Geophagus shoal/colony would do well.

Aggression will depend entirely on a fish to fish basis with the EBJD, and nothing anyone says on a forum will change that. Personally, I don't think an EBJD fits the foundation of the tank at all, I'd consider it a cheap and corny addition to what is otherwise a nicely themed tank.

i wouldnt really see a problem with that stocking other than finding a tetra that gets big enough to not get eaten by the severums/ebjd and at same time not overload your bio, also with the severums make sure you have even numbers and if you have odd numbers then make sure to get all the same sex because if a pair forms then the odd ball out will be beaten up, i think a pair of severums and a ebjd would look really nice just make sure to QUARANTINE THE EBJD these guys are super prone to parasites so you might as well go ahead and treat him right away when you get him so you dont have to worry about treating your big tank later GOOD LUCK and make sure to post pics once its all set up sounds like it will be a nice looking peaceful tank

I think that comment sort of nails it.

my own EBJD is such a wimp, I doubt he would threaten guppies, let alone Geos, and in general the EBJD has a rep for being more docile than standard JDs, but there are no guarantees

but more important, I think he's right that an EBJD doesn't really fit with the rest of the tank. I'd leave it out of the mix entirely

OK, so if I go with just the severum/geo red head set up, how many of each would work in a tank of that size, keeping in mind that I would want to add a large school of tetras also?

u could do 9 tetra.

Hardly a large school.

I'd personally go for the following if you want Severum and Eartheaters together.

2x Male Heros sp. (Provided they're compatible aggression wise with eachother)
6x Geophagus sp. "Orange Head"
25-30x Hyphessobrycon sp. or other Genera tetra of your choice.
