If you grow them up together, you can keep several ebjd together no problem. If you have more than one, you should have 3 or more to spread out any aggression. These fish (ebjd) are not aggressive though! I find they do best with community fish like rainbows, barbs, and i even have a breeding pair in with a glass fish, and diamond tetra, and a few rainbows. Before i Bred ebjd, i heard a breeding pair would kill everyone else in the tank.....that was not true. I have a 125 gal tank with two breeding pairs in the tank. They both laid eggs in the 125 gal in the same week. No problem. If you have a 65 gal or bigger there should be no problem.
Some say ebjd are weak. I have found that that depends on breeding. If the breeder starts with bad genetics and inbreeds over and over, chances are the fish will be weak. You will usually know by 2 0r 3 inches if they will survive. I purchased over 60 EBJD FRY, at crazy prices, before i found a really strong line. NOT ALL BLUEJACKS ARE CREATED EQUAL!!! When you see a really good bluejack, with great spangles, with sharp colour, filled with personality, greeting you everytime you walk past the tank saying feed me, feed me, you realize that that other crap with genetic defects, weak muted colours almost prevented you from realizing how awesome this fish is.

Almost all ebjd babies look good under 1.5 inches (before you can see many genetic defects.) What size do retailers sell egjd's at? Retailers sell ebjd's at 1-1.5 inches.
SO.....retailers just want to sell fish.
If you can find a breeder that cares about quality, that is your best bet. The problem is that it is very difficult for breeders to get really good breeding stock in the first place. If your breeding crap fish, chances are you will get crap fish.
