This guy was sold to me as a EBJD.I knew it didnt look like a true EBJD,but I had to buy it.To me it looks somewhere in between a regular JD and a EBJD.Either way I figure its got to have some Blue Gene in it.I actually bought two of them.I'll try to get some better pictures.

Rather than more of a solid blue, he is a black base with strong blueish scales. I say it's a regular JD.
I would either complain, or just deal with it and start a new tank :)
Sucks that EBJDs are more money though and either THEY were duped by their supplier and not educated enough to realize the difference, or they scammed you.

It's not a regular dempsey.Just really cant tell by that pic.I knew what I was getting.I paid 40 bucks each,and it has more colors than a regular.It does have that dark base.Like I said I'll try and get better pics.

I've seen only a few EBJD that have had more of regular jd look to them. They were plain as day EBJD when juveniles but as they grew their coloring changed to more of normal jd look. They did have very blue spangles. If you were to see them, not knowing what they looked like as juveniles, you would say they were not blue dempsies. This may be your case here. As long as you know their origin than so be it. A few more pictures will definitely help. So I would not doubt that this an EBJD as of yet. More pictures please.

I think it's a normal JD or at most a blue gene JD. (but you really can't tell the differences between a regular JD and a BGJD)

Here's what my EBJDs look like at 5 inches:

Post a better pic, because that one looks like a regular male JD. I own both a male EBJD and regular male Jack Dempsey. I've never seen one that looked like an EBJD and changed to look more like a regular JD as it grew. Not trying to hijack your thread, but here is my regular male JD in breeding dress and my EBJD for reference;

To me, there is a very noticeable difference in the 2.

There is 100% no way to tell visually if a fish is a blue gene carrier. It's a recessive trait so phenotypically a blue gene looks identical to a standard JD.

Looks like a standard JD to me.
