Hey everyone, I've had my EBJDs for 2 days. I got them about an hour after the shop got them but they said they'd be fine if I took them. They look healthy they are very active, nice color, no fin rot or ick, but they wont eat. I tried flake food the night I got them, and I put frozen brine shrimp yesterday and today and they will not touch it.

Could it because of tank mates? They are in a 55 gallon with a tank divider, they have about 20 gallons to themselves. But could the presence of the other fish be making them skiddish to eat?

Only other thing I can think of is water temperature... The heater is set to the right temperature but my heater in my house is out and the water seems a little cold.

Anyone know what to do? Would be much appreciated, Thanks!

Sounds like you probably need to turn up the heat on your tank. What other fish are on the other side of your divider? Another problem could be ammonia/nitrate/nitrite, you might need to do a water change. Make sure your water is on the warmer side of their temp range too, one other possibility is they're still in a shocked state from being shipped, then netted, then taken to your house, then dumped into a whole different world that they've never seen before, so i would also try giving them time to adjust.

give them some more time to settle in. their world has been turned upside down lately, what with being netted at the wholesaler, dumped in a bag, shipped to the store, dumped in a tank, netted, dumped in a bag, then netted again and dumped into your tank. i'd be a tad too unsettled to eat if that happened to me! lol.

they won't be hurt any by not eating for a few days. what is your tank thermometer reading at?

About 78 degrees on the heater. And the other fish on the other side are Jewel Cichlids and parrot cichlids.

Get heat to 80-82 degrees gradually.
They may just need time to settle into the tank and get used to what you are feeding. High quality pellets and flake for food.
Best of luck to you.

I can safely say that the other fish are not your problem, as stated above, turn up the heat gradually, and make sure you feed them what they fed at their previous location.

Thanks for everyones help. I'm getting a new heater today. I found out that the one in the tank has a short in it and has only been working half the time. Hopefully that will motivate my EBJDs to eat. I didnt even think about it because the other fish in the tank havent been eating as hog like as they usually do either... Should have known something was up when my big BP was being kind of skiddish of food.
