How much do EBJDs cost? i have friends that work at a decent petco so i sometimes ask them to order fish for me. If you didn't see my other thread, you should know im kind of getting into the whole SA/CA cichlid area so i asked my friend to order me an EBJD. He ordered me texas and low grade FH before, so i had a base price of around $20 in my head, especially since they would be under 1in. They come in today and theyre $60:wall:. i told him i could get one on here cheaper and left but is that really how much they cost?

about 20 apiece plus shipping get some from tampafishman on aqua bid he is a good breeder and you can get like 5 for 100 bucks. expect some loses though they are tough when young. do some research before you buy i highly recommend a grow out tank with a UV on it with weekly to bi weekly water changes i have three that i got at about 1 inch now pushing 4 inches.

LFS around me sell EBJD's for $20-30 each...but like SVTIM said, prepare for some losses they arent as hardy as they could be when they are young...I

$40+ from a LFS is common...

I highly agree with the UV light when they are young...

I've gotten large groups of young ones to isolate strong males... I highly suggest this method...

I also agree TampaFishMan has put a lot of effort into establishing quality breeding pairs... I would be very leery of buying them from a source I was not familar with. There are a lot of low grade Blue Dempseys out there...

Be VERY careful on EBJDs from LFS that are around 1-1.5" usually those EBJDs have bad genes and with careless breeders..... Check on Allthingsdempsey or EBJDforum.com for more details on them....

Also.. Try getting them from quality breeders.. I know of one guy in SF who has some good ones..... his EBJD is actually a Purple Blue EBJD with a regular JD female..... great colors i have to say.. but ya.. EBJD rates are average 20-30 bucks.. I bought 2 Blue Gene JD for 50bucks and they actually look more EBJD than Blue Gene....

also.. some quality breeders. charge about $15 per fish BUT.. you have to order min of 4-6 fish.. its 35bucks for shipping... .. comes down to around 90-125bucks total.....

pretty expensive fish... but better than what they were 9 months ago i heard..... each fish cost $60bucks??? only rumors in passing so don't take my word for it...
