Eclipse canopies question

For those who have the Eclipse tops the came with the tank...is it possible for me to remove all of that and add my own aquaclear hob filter on the back? Or is there no room for it? I want to buy a used one but they come with eclipse canopies and don't wanna spend extra on a glass top
