i bought an eclipse/sun cat yesterday and the store kept it in brackish water but i slowly added freshwater into his bag and then put him in my freshwater tank (did the same with a fire eel) after about an hour and a half, but it hasn't eaten yet and now it sits in its log and looks like it is swimming but not going foreward and then it will open its mouth real wide like it is yelling at me, should I be worried about any of this?
the hole brackish to freshwater thing is really the only worrie
mine swim like that kinda like swimming in place not to worrie and mine yawn alot to just about all cats do might not eat for a day or two like alot of fish just getting use to its new tank and they are MUCH more active feeders at night mine hardly eats unless the food is droped near him or its krill then he comes out
My babys however come out all day long and one even comes right up to the surface to eat no fear from him young fish seatle in better and they seem to be growing faster then i expected sorry for the long post no body talks much about these fish i like em alot
i agree that the biggest worry would be the acclimation from brackish to freshwater.
i like these fish alot. I think most people dont talk about them much cause while theoretically they get 17" in nature. Most of them dont reach that size in the home aquaria.
my dad's is getting quite large, and sometimes comes out and does a few laps while the lights are on. Mine does most of its swimming when i roll over and wake up at like 3 in the morning. But i love him, be kinda sad if i lost him.
saw him out and swimming up at the top scooping up pellets so i think hes doing fine now!
also i think he is stunted, its only 3inches, the store said it had been there for 8 months and i was the first to really even see it
he seems pretty tuff to because when they first bagged him up he got his dorsal fin stuck in the bag so the worker had to cut him out, but so far he is healing nicely
