Eco Complete

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have used both flourite, laterite, peat moss, and eco complete planted tank. They are all really good stuff, personally I like the eco complete the best, but it is also the most expensive of the four.

There's not that much of a price difference between the four. Was just wondering waht the better one was.
Thanks for the reply

Eco complete is generally 24.99 around here, Flourite is 19.99, Laterite 14.99 and peat moss... well that is like 2.99 for enough to do a 1000 gallon planted aquarium. If there isn't a big difference in price, or you have the extra money, the eco-complete planted aquarium looks better IMO then the Flourite. Stay away from the Red Sea stuff, it is a pain to work with.

i love ecocomplete... 2 of my tanks have it. what bothers me is that they changed the texture of it. around here, it used to be very fine like dirt... now it's coarse, which was an issue for me due to my motoro. anyways, it's well worth it for it's properties and it's looks... and can i suggest getting malaysian trumpet snails to aerate it for you. they are readily available on aquabid.com by numerous people for very cheap. they dont touch plants.

You should be able to find MTS for free, check your LFS, they probably have them if they have a planted tank, and will gladly give them away.

Go with Flourite its a much better product IME.. I have 240lbs of eco in my tank and had nothing but problems with this stuff.

Its high in Phos, gets sucked up in to your filter, builds up gas, compacts down, hard to clean and sticks to your plants ect..

Eco has changed there blend and it's not the same eco it was a few years back.
It's nothing but a powder moon sand now..

Eco complete planted, isn't a sand anymore, they changed it to a smaller gravel, around the same size as flourite. IME I had better results with the eco than the flourite, although I do use the flourite now. But then I have high phosphates with the flourite.

hey im also a beginner in the planted side of the hobby,I would like to add,I have been using the flourite for 4 months in my new planted tank, with no problems,I also have a friend that is using eco and he has had more problems then me with his tank, but he loves the eco and would never blame it on gravel,I think he also is doing a lil too much, additives and such,my tank is going strong on once weekly h20 changes and good lighting and no surface movment.

I have used eco complete, but my favorite is red sea flora base. It is clay like and holds alot of nutrients. I mixed it 3 parts to one of any gravel you want to change up the color and texture. It looks really good and works great. The main thing I didn't like about eco complete is it is basically done after 3 months and has nothing left in it. Also the eco complete is really sharp and if rubs on the glass it will scratch really easy especially if it gets caught under a magnet scraper.
